Take Advantage of Today’s Low Mortgage Rates
Ever since the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic turned the economy upside down, mortgage rates have fallen to a record low. Since the pandemic hit the country, the U.S. Federal Reserve has slashed interest rates twice.
According to a report from LendingTree, borrowers with credit scores between 720 and 759 are being offered an average mortgage rate of 3.46%. Borrowers in this range who take out a $250,000, 360-month mortgage will benefit from an implied savings of $50,148. Borrowers who have credit scores in the range of 640-679 are being offered an average mortgage rate of 3.87%. With this rate, a borrower would save $48,699 on a 250,000, 360-month mortgage.
Refinancing rates have also fallen significantly. The LendingTree report revealed that borrowers with credit ratings of 760 and higher are receiving an average rate of 3.23% when they refinance their mortgages.
Although mortgage rates are low, lenders have been attempting to create stability during the economic crisis by raising minimum credit scores, requiring higher down payments, double-checking employment status, and getting rid of certain loans entirely. Meeting the requirements for these additional measures can be challenging, which is why you should consult with our legal team at Cali Law to discuss the details of your situation.
